I definitely love getting to know my characters. Even my villains surprise me. If you watched the movie “The Man who Invented Christmas,” my process is very similar. I talk with them, get to know them, follow them through events.

Sounds great 🙂 I had an argument with one of my characters this morning — lots of fun! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

I haven’t written fiction (meaning actually completed the tale) in many years. Developing characters was the most fun. Once they were established, they wrote themselves.

Great post, Ronel! Can you arrange a lunch date for me and Sam Gamgee? Rosie can come, too, if she wants! 😉

It is true about using people we meet for our characters. Having a full time job, especially where there are a lot of people, and diverse, gives me a lot of ideas and characters. If only I didn’t have a full time job that takes up a lot of my time! *chuckle*. Paradox of my life. 🙂

He-he. Notebooks filled with characters… I’ve found that it’s all about time-management and routine to make the hours in a day work for you 😉 And still I have a closet full of notebooks, binders and papers with ideas.

Time management and no “Montecasino-addiction”. Ha-ha!
I know that one day, I can use those journals, as much as you will be have published books with those ideas taken from those notebooks and napkins (he-he!) put together and mixed with new stuff. 🙂
I have this crime story developing in my head from some observations at work, involving me. I can’t wait to get over my want to gallivant so I can sit myself down and write. There is one problem, the character based on me cannot be the MC because I plan to kill her… unless… ah, I’m thinking of something. Luckily, it’s one idea that cannot escape me because I interact with the characters on a daily basis. Me thinks I’m no romance writer. 🙂

You can always add a romance subplot 😉 Killing off characters is so much fun! As long as the ones the characters are based on stay oblivious to their own roles in the story…

Yes! 😋 I guess if I can write well enough, they wouldn’t have a clue. 😂
