Such an excellent post… It is great to learn about Duergar or gray dwarves… and their existence down in the Underdark… the imaginary reminded me of Hephaestos and Hades… asssociated to Fire (therefore, vulcanoes at times) and the Underworld, respectively…
I was thinking of how the folklore might have changed… or included other expressions, leading to kids fairytales such as the classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs … In contrast, their appearance is clearly gothic or dark among Norse Mythology
