We are dog people. Only one dog at a time, but we’ve experienced losing one too soon. Not from worms, but from cancer. It’s so sad to learn that nothing can be done and that the loving heart will be taken from us. I’m sorry you lost your guy. I’m glad you have dogs to try to fill the space he left, but each dog owns a unique place in our heart and memory.
Thanks for joining us,
Dan – cohost – #CBF16

I’m so sorry for your loss. I totally understand keeping something around because it reminds you of a pet. I lost my dog after 16 years together almost a year ago, and still don’t have the heart to get rid of her collars… they still smell like her. It’s crazy how empty a space they can leave behind.
Also, your last line made me stop in my tracks “Sometimes I wonder what could have been… And then I remember that I should live in the moment; only weaving stories and what ifs productively in my writing.”
As a writer, I’ve struggled with balancing living in the moment and writing stories that dwell outside present. Thank you so much for sharing this! It’s a great line to live by.

I’m not a dog person (birds are what have always called to me) but I know many people who loved their beloved dogs and what the death of a beloved dog can do. I wish it was easier to live in the moment. Sometimes, it is so hard.

Thanks, Alana. I agree that it’s sometimes hard to live in the moment, still we try 🙂 Birds are amazing creatures, I currently have two chickens (Goku and Tori) and I’m enjoying their personalities and quirks just as much as the Rottweilers’.

Love dogs (just about any pets, really). Sorry to read about spiro taking poor Jazz, but I enjoyed hearing about your lamp. And yes, it’s very important to live in the moment. We never know how many we have. Nice post.

I am a dog person but currently without a dog. I have also had to feel the loss of a beloved pet, and that is a sad affair. My favorite pet was a collie mix, Ginger, that we found at the pound. We loved her, and she loved us. When I think of her, I think of a frisbee because there was nothing in the world she loved more than playing frisbee. Nice pets you have there, and I feel at peace when looking at your blog header photo. Nice to meet you through the Cherished Blogfest. 🙂

What a sweetheart he was. I love Rottweilers, and that’s probably because of my early love of Carl, the fictional nanny. Sorry you lost him.

We are certainly dog lovers. This is a big part of our current lifestyle, which is house and pet sitting for other people. We adore dogs – and had two of the smartest, most amazing ones in the whole world – but are not ready for our own again, yet. We are roaming the world in different ways, but will adopt another dog or two in the future, for sure. Nothing can prepare you for the heartache when one of your loved ones dies, especially from cancer or an unforeseen disease like spiro. I am so sorry about the loss of your dogs. I wish dogs could live forever… 🙂 We think about our sweethearts every day, still, and smile.

Our fur-family is so important to us and they leave such a huge hole behind when they leave us. That’s such a terrible way to lose one and at such a young age. I’m so sorry for you.

We used to have a black lab but had to give her up when we moved overseas. She was such a wonderful part of our life. Dogs have a way of capturing your heart and becoming such an important part of your family. It’s heartbreaking when we lose them. Thanks for sharing your story.

Thank you for sharing Jasper’s story. I like how you beautifully connect the lamp and your much loved dog(s). I have only one, who is semi-paralysed at the moment. I had written about her during the A-Z challenge: https://durbadhyani.wordpress.com/2016/04/05/d-for-dachshund/

I’m sorry for your loss. Though I’m a crazy cat lady, I love dogs as well. Thanks for sharing your fur babies with us! I can’t help but wonder, are the names “Jasper” and “Emmet” from Twilight?

Ah yes. We were a dog family (and cats, birds, etc). One of my favourites was a border collie called ‘Ruffy’. Sadly, he got lead poisoning as we lived then near old mines in the city of Broken Hill. As for lamps. Yep, love and them and prefer them to fluoro tubes. How else can we read great literature in bed without our trusty bedside lamp? 🙂
