These truths of what defines a good writer are probably the very reason I can’t surrender completely pouring the real me onto paper. I’m way too private to do this and so, I’m hopeless lost. I reckon I’ll never find that I can do this and it’s with that knowledge I accept the painful truth that writing a world-class novel is not within my reach. Thanks for sharing and whenever you get a chance, you’re invited to check out my daily A2Z iPad Art Sketch of a big-eyed owl.
Absolutely, Ronel. The author needs to find that connection with the reader. We all have different backgrounds and life experience, but we’re all human. We share an emotional base. If a writer can to into that, s/he will write a memorable story.
That might explain a lot. I rarely write in this way. I write to understand. I suppose the two could meet–and they often do–but my goal is different. Very much enjoyed this post, Ronel.
You’re so right! And it’s so hard to do. (I hated Titanic, BTW, but box office numbers say I’m the only one in the universe who did.) A to Z Books About…
Thoughtful & thought-provoking post there Ronel. I’m already a huge fan of your challenge this year, but I am particularly drawn to your ‘taken from personal experience’ pieces like this one.
Thanks, Debs 🙂 These pieces weren’t originally planned: I wanted to do all of them as guest posts/interviews, but that didn’t quite work out like I wanted it to. I’m glad you’re enjoying my personal pieces 🙂

More good advice. I still wish she had just let Jack share that bit of wood with her though 🙂

Thanks, Jacqui 🙂 I don’t always write like this — it’s exhausting! But when I do, the result is just wow.
