About Author

Ronel Janse van Vuuren infuses her writing with folklore, magic and mythology. She shares some of her work for free on Wattpad, INK: Skryf in Afrikaans and on her blog Ronel the Mythmaker under #TwistedTaleTuesday for flash fiction pieces and sometimes longer short stories on Sundays.

Every second Thursday of the month she shares her research on a particular folklore topic for #FolkloreThursday and how it plays out in her writing.

For the first Wednesday of the month, she shares her writing highs and lows with fellow writers of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group.

For every third Wednesday of the month she shares writerly wisdom – either her own or a guest’s – with other authors with the #AuthorToolboxBlogHop.

She is a regular contributor over on Writer to Writers, sharing writing advice (among other things) and she’s also a regular contributor on Writing Wranglers and Warriors.

In 2016 she won the honour of being Writer of the Year on INK and in 2017 she came second. (For more, check out the Accolades page and My Writing pages.) She was once again the Writer of Year on INK in 2018.

2017 was an extraordinary year for Ronel in publishing:

Two of her short stories (Hoop op Oukersaand and Saphira en die Toorlied) were published in INK’s anthology Inkspraak.

Two of her short stories (Just Deserts and Lights) were accepted and published in the anthology Cinderella Reimagineda project where authors actually receive royalties on books sold.

Her short story Black Moon was accepted for publication in the Agorist Writers’ Workshop’s third Clarion Call Anthology Unbound.

All of this somehow led to her own – surprise publication as part of a competition prize – short story collection Eens… (An Afrikaans book she’s currently working on rewriting in English, scheduled for publication in 2018).

Though not intended, all of the above fall under the New Adult genre. Readers can find various moments of hope, inspiration, questions and fun in her themes of love, anarchy, sisterhood and power (among others) while enjoying her dark humour in the – for the most part – dark fantasy stories.

You can find all these books on Ronel’s Goodreads Author page.

When Ronel isn’t writing, she’s researching forgotten folklore, playing with her Rottweilers, raising chickens, training her horses not to bite, shuffling her compost heaps, or sewing a fantasy dress (or cape, or cloak or… *grin* You get the idea.).

Ronel can be reached on her Contact page or on her various social media networks.
