It’s the first Wednesday of the month! That means it’s time for another Insecure Writer’s Support Group post.
OPTIONAL IWSG Day Question: It’s spring! Does this season inspire you to write more than others, or not?
Well, it’s autumn where I am… Autumn means re-evaluating things. I wrote about that for the Writing Wranglers and Warriors blog if you want to check that out.
In the interest of “autumn cleaning” I spruced up my author bios, changed my social media headers and uploaded a new avatar. Most on my mailing list voted for that photo. (Check the sidebar.)
I also made the decision to move the publication of Once… from July to the end of this month!
That’s a lot of work that needs to be done.
If you’d like to host me on your blog between the 23rd and 31st of May for the launch of my book, please fill in the form below and I’ll get in touch.
I realised it’s only my own insecurities that kept me from publishing that novel now. The Afrikaans version is everything it can be (various eBooks, audiobooks, POD), so what can I lose by publishing it in English? I’ll be a proper debut author… Hell, that’s scary enough!
Getting back to this month’s question: I do write more in spring. The days are longer, it’s not as cold, the excitement of new life burgeoning outside makes me want to create more, there’s an urgency to finish projects before the heat of summer takes away all thought. I can go on 😉
This morning is refreshingly cool; birds are chirping; the horses are eating away at the last of the new growth of grass; the chickens are hunting insects; the dogs are lounging in the sun. Autumn is here. Or almost gone…
And you? What are you up to this season?
PS. I learned how to do the whole Google doc thing from Jacqui Murray — check out her guest post from the A-Z “Tech Tips for Writers“.
Sign up for my newsletter and receive a free ebook. I won’t share your information and I’ll only email you once a month with updates on new releases, special offers, and a bit of news.

I agree with that Fitzgerald quote, because I usually feel more inspired to get still and write when the weather starts cooling down.

Yes, it’s autumn down here in New Zealand too. I find these cooler months so conducive to writing that it’s wonderful. In spring it’s way harder to keep myself seated! Right now, though, as you said too, it’s writer’s heaven! 🙂

I forgot it’s autumn for you there. That means you’ve still got spring to look forward to. 🙂 I signed up to help, best of luck with the launch. And you are already a proper debut author, the English version is just a formality at this point!

Thanks, Nick 🙂 I think with the Afrikaans book being a surprise and all, I haven’t really felt like I’ve stepped into the role of debut author.

Our Spring took a long time to get here this year but now that it’s here, I want to be outside, not in front of a computer! I tend to write better in Autumn. Once Winter rolls around, all I want to do is be warm. But I do get writing done because there’s not much point in going outside in the cold. Enjoy your current season, the Autumn and your season in writing! Congratulations also on the publication 😀
